Learning in the Age of AI: Finding the Right Balance

Sonia Vitiello, the 9th of September 2025

I promise, this won’t be another blog post full of hype about how AI is amazing and will change the world overnight. Let’s be honest: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is more present than ever, and while it hasn’t quite reached its peak, it’s closer than the Earth is to the Moon.

This isn’t a promise of answers, just a reflection on how AI is reshaping something fundamental to us all: learning.

Learning is everywhere

We learn every day of our lives. Sometimes it takes effort, other times it happens almost without us noticing. From our very first steps to this moment, yes, even while you’re reading this blog, you’re learning something new.

Learning isn’t just about compulsory training at work. It’s a continuous process, one that keeps us motivated, curious, and alive in the broadest sense of the word.

Here Comes AI

AI is no longer a secret tool reserved for tech experts, it’s embedded in our daily routines. It writes, designs, automates, and supports us in ways that once felt impossible.

Need to draft a tricky email to a customer? Instead of sweating over five versions, you can ask ChatGPT to create one for you. Looking for a healthy recipe that fits your dietary needs? An AI assistant can serve you options in seconds. Jackpot!

In education and workplace learning, AI is even more transformative: adaptive platforms can personalise lessons to each learner’s pace, chatbots can answer training questions instantly, and content can be generated on demand. The way we learn, work, and grow is evolving at incredible speed.

But isn't all puppies and rainbows

I was honestly surprised when someone at work told me their kids don’t even “Google” things anymore, their first stop is ChatGPT. For a millennial like me, that was a wake-up call.
When AI does all the heavy lifting, we risk skipping big part of the process. It’s not just about finding the answer, it’s about building curiosity, problem-solving skills, and even creativity. Those little side discoveries are what make learning interesting.

We're not only giving away our research skills but also our creativity, we're not brainstorming anymore AI is doing it for us. Yes sure, we're following the trends, we're at the same pace of others...but are we really?

...And we can find balance

AI is a great support, but it shouldn’t do all the work for us. If we just lean on it for everything, we lose the fun (and the challenge) of figuring things out ourselves.

At the same time, companies need to be careful too. If they only focus on an “AI-first” strategy and forget about the people behind it, they risk losing what really keeps teams motivated, learning, growing, and feeling that their ideas matter.

The point isn’t people versus AI. It’s people with AI. We need both. AI can speed things up, but our curiosity and creativity are what keep us moving forward.

Keep your people learning, keep them engaged, and keep them alive with purpose. Do that, and the results will surprise you.
